Behind the Build: Function Over Flash with Teknion Boulevard

When people think of office installations, they often picture the flashy, high-design aesthetic of the finished space. But as an Indoff Partner, I know that true office “glamour” is often about something much more satisfying: pure, seamless functionality.

 

I recently wrapped up an installation where the goal wasn’t just to make a room look good—it was to solve a real workflow puzzle.

 

 

The Challenge: A Shared Space for Collaboration & Support

 

The client needed a highly collaborative environment designed for five people: four height-adjustable desk units and one team administrator. The goal was to give everyone enough privacy to focus, while still keeping the team connected and the administrator easily accessible.

 

My task was to clear the slate and completely plan the space utilizing Teknion Boulevard systems furniture.

 

Enter the Tool of the Trade

If you’ve ever worked with Teknion Boulevard, you know it is a basic but incredibly highly-engineered system. In fact, it’s so well-built that disassembling and configuring the panels required a specific tool from my kit: my trusty, spring-assisted Kershaw knife. It’s a testament to how securely these systems lock together; they are built to last, cost-effective, and remarkably sturdy.

 

Why I Appreciate This Product

From an installer’s and a user’s perspective, Teknion Boulevard has some fantastic engineered details that make a huge difference in a daily workspace:

• Power at the Beltline: Unlike systems that force you to crawl around on the floor to plug things in, this product offers power right at the beltline. It’s incredibly convenient for height-adjustable desks.

• Acoustic Integrity: The panels are acoustic and stackable to the exact desired height, giving the team the perfect amount of boundary.

• Letting the Light In: We integrated glass into the top of the panels. This helps significantly with sound dampening while ensuring the space still feels open, bright, and collaborative.

 

The Result

Thanks to the smart engineering of the product and a solid plan, I was able to take this project from a blank slate to a fully functioning team hub in just one day.

A space doesn’t have to be a sprawling executive suite to be a major win. Seeing a team get a highly functional, ergonomic space that actually helps them do their jobs better is the best part of being an Indoff Partner.
